What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib, also referred as a bassinet or a co-sleeper is a baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your child to sleep right next to you in a safe environment. It is a safe method of co-sleeping, which does not increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It also helps you bond with your new baby.
They have one side that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c section. Many of them are portable or foldable which means you can use them for trips and as a temporary solution for newborns that aren't yet ready to transition into a crib that is large enough.
Choose a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from stains. You might also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like a blanket or teether.
If you're seeking a long-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to transform them into a toddler bed or a cot when the time is right. This is great for extending their lifespan and making the transition smoother. Some even have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, and some can be used on the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families who intend to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms at night. It is also important to consider how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib in comfortably. Many cribs come with risers that can be added to create an incline for babies with reflux.
